EU adopts safe hydrogen car proposal

The European Commission has for the first time adopted proposals to encourage the development as well as marketing of clean and safe hydrogen cars. Brussels however acknowledged that the technology may have little impact in the next 10 years.

a fresh controversy has erupted regarding the implementation of the National Auto Fuel policy. Union minister of shipping, road transport and highways T R Baalu, in a letter to Union minister of petroleum and natural gas Mani Shankar Aiyar, has demanded a review of the policy's implementation be preponed. The review is scheduled for 2006 in the policy, cleared by the Union cabinet in October 2003.

Reinvent the mobility idea

When I think of the government's newly cleared Auto Fuel Policy, the image of Nero fiddling while Rome burnt comes to mind. The document apparently sets the roadmap to meet clean air targets in Indian cities -- in other words, show how to secure mobility and public health. Instead, all it reflects -- in the worst way -- the ostrich-like mindset of government scientists, planners and in particular, Indian industry captains and their cheerleaders.
