The actor promptly unbuttoned it and handed it to him. Such bursts of camaraderie were what Craig Shillitto, an architect and restaurant designer, had in mind when he devised Project Paladar, a collaboration that pairs 10 chefs, mostly from New York, with 10 Cuban chefs in a restaurant built from shipping containers.

Each night, a pair cooks for a mixed group of Cubans and foreigners, mostly Americans. The event forms part of the 11th Havana Biennial, which began on July 5 and runs for a month. Financing for the event comes from private donors.
