26 heads of cattle killed after being administered injection in Parbhani district
The incident happened on September 3, when 141 domestic animals from village Mandhani were injected with gentamicin (30 ml), obamectin (30 ml), predinisolon (10 ml), vitamin B complex and liver extract at a veterinary camp held under a government tick-protection programme. Out of these, 48 animals developed reactions to the medication, and by September 4, 12 cows and 14 calves had succumbed to their symptoms.
S M Bagde, additional commissioner with animal husbandry department, said that blood samples from animal carcasses have been collected for testing by the department and stocks of the medications, supplied by Sunvet Pharma under a contract, have been sealed. Samples of medication have been taken for testing by the Food and Drugs Administration. A decision regarding lifting of the ban will be taken only after reports are received from both departments, he said.
