PEOPLE’S movement and international solidarity is a powerful combination. Metals and mining giant Vedanta Resources felt the heat on the day of its annual general meeting on August 28.
Grassroots campaign group Foil Vedanta declared the day as the global day of action against it. Activists from different organisations joined the campaign and crowded the entrance to the meeting hall.
Parallel demonstrations were held across Asia and Africa where Vedanta operates. Even at the meeting, dissident shareholders pointed out Vedanta’s racism and environmental and social violations.
Vedanta’s shares slipped. It was success for Foil Vedanta. Protest is not the only way of Foil Vedanta to wage a war. It has a reference site for all those who want to keep a tab on Vedanta’s misdeeds, be it illegal mining or water pollution.
As evidence, it hosts documentaries, articles and photo galleries.
