The Union ministry of communication and information technology (mocit) has sought the Swedish government's technological expertise to take up e-governance in 100,000 villages by 2006. The moc it minister, Dayanidhi Maran, said an Indo-Swedish working group would be set up to share expertise in e-governance, telemedicine and other information technology-enabled areas.
The minister was addressing the press after a meeting with his Swedish counterpart, Ulrica Messing. The minister also sought Swedish help in opening up more business process outsourcing units in the software industry, especially in Chennai. "I am showcasing Chennai as one of the favoured destinations for the information technology enabled sector," he said.
