The northern territory (nt) government in Australia has failed to keep a vow to support senators in their fight against a national nuclear waste facility being built in its jurisdiction. The federal government wanted to build a nuclear waste dump in the nt for which it introduced legislations. Soon after, the nt parliament moved a resolution condemning the removal of any ability to scrutinise, review or appeal the dump proposal. Following opposition, the government has abandoned the national waste dump plan and announced a search for a site, leaving states and territories to make own arrangements.
