Indymedia UK
The us government has finally responded to uk- based watchdog, Electronic Frontier Foundation's (etf) motion to unseal the court order that brought down twenty Indymedia sites worldwide (see 'Bullies in Action,' Down To Earth, November 15, 2004, p 58) And how? Citing various legal clauses, and referring to its Mutual Assistance Legal Treaties (malt) with European countries, the us government has again reiterated that the order should remain secret. etf intends to seek legal recourse.
The us response also contains details suggesting that the order might have originated in Italy. While the government refuses to identify which government prompted the court order, the letter cites language from "Article 8" that corresponds to the us' mlat with Italy.
