To clean up Delhi's air, the Supreme Court ruled in July 1998 that all public transport should move away from diesel and towards compressed natural gas (CNG) By March 31, 2001. But the Union government and the Delhi state government have done nothing apart from discrediting CNG. They are more bothered about petty industrial interests than the health and life of millions, using chaos in public transport as a weapon to pressurise the court.
