This website created by M A Pai, a us-based non-resident Indian scientist, may lack original content, but it is still a one-stop source for online resources on Indian science and technology. Almost all the content carried in its 13 channels -- on subjects ranging from agriculture to education to space -- are put together from a large number of media and institutional portals from India as well as the us. It has also provided links to a large number of articles, interviews and profile pieces on prominent Indian personalities that have appeared in a variety of online publications.
The fact that there are not many websites that provide information on science and technology practiced in the country enhances the website's utility value. The founder, currently a professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, definitely has a proper understanding of Indian science: he had held a teaching position at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur for two decades. The website, however, would have been much more lively if a portion of the content was original. Currently, it only serves the purpose of informing the lay public.
The website also highlights the crying need for a quality website on the latest in Indian science and technology. Though successive governments in India talk of fostering scientific temper, their promises remain merely lip service. Enhancing the public understanding of science is perhaps the last of the priorities of even this particular administration, witness its non-record since coming to power.
