people in Madhya Pradesh (mp) are preparing to face a water crisis. Alarmed at the decreasing ground water level in many cities in the state, the MP government is working out a plan to rationalise potable water per person in the cities of Bhopal, Jabalpur, Malwa region, Ujjain and other towns.
Under the plan, a ban will be imposed on installation of hand pumps, digging of tubewells and wells. According to officials of the Central Water Resource Department, water conservation will also be taken up.
Reports from various regions in the state indicate that the water crisis has assumed monstrous proportions. Drinking water sources in 100 villages in the hilly areas of the state have dried up. Water scarcity is at its zenith in places such as Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ratlam, Dewas, Dhar, Khargone, Khandwa, Badwani, Ujjain and Shajapur. The level of ground water has plummeted in around 500 villages of Bhopal district.
