Directive on water harvesting

Acting on a public interest litigation (pil) petition, the Delhi High Court (hc) ordered local bodies to use official buildings, schools and hospitals in the capital for rainwater harvesting. The court directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Corporation, Delhi Development Authority, Delhi Jal Board and Delhi government to file a status report by December 11.

A pil was earlier filed seeking to make roof-top rainwater harvesting mandatory in all the city buildings. The hc bench asked the authorities concerned to take appropriate steps to install the required equipment for rainwater harvesting within three months. New buildings would not be granted a 'completion certificate' until the officials are satisfied that proper arrangements have been made in this regard.
