European beef has been banned in Argentina. Fearing the spread of spongiform encephalopathy (bse), Argentina has banned the import of European beef, lamb, mutton and any products containing such meat. The ban does not include pork, poultry or meat from other animals.
The government said that the people must be careful of 'low risk' products such as milk derivates -- cheese and powder milk, plus cookies and chocolates. A proposal to ban milk products such as baby food and ice cream is also on the anvil.
