Researchers at the University of Toronto, Canada have been able to predict rises in sea level attributed to global warming. Usually global warming models predict that the poles will warm up quickly, causing sea levels to rise as the ice melts but cannot predict where the rise in sea-level could take place. The new model distributes that rise, in relation to where the water comes from. The ice shield alters the local water levels, by its gravitational pull. So if the Greenland ice sheet were to melt entirely, the model predicts, it would actually lower water levels in the North Atlantic, but cause them to rise in the southern oceans.
