Some local communities in Mozambique are protesting against plans to create a cross-border conservation area between South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The Gaza-Krger Gonarezhou ( gkg ) Transfrontier Park will include Zimbabwe's Gonarezhou National Park, South Africa's Krger National Park and Mozambique's Coutada 16, a wildlife area. "In a consultation workshop with the communities of the three countries, the need to strengthen the discussion process in Mozambique was felt. The communities that are protesting live around the planned park. Therefore, a project manager will be appointed from July 2001, to educate them about the advantages of the park," said Leo Braack, coordinator of gkg.
