Electricity demand of the it equipment in 2010, will account for one-third of the total electricity needed by the country at present, says the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation, an affiliate of the country's ministry of economy, trade and industry, which did the forecast. The increase will be equivalent to the annual amount of electricity generated by 30 nuclear power reactors, each with a capacity of 1.1 million kilowatts. it -related electricity demand of the country in 2000 is estimated to be 41.8 billion kilowatt per hour (kw/h) 4.3 per cent of the total demand for electricity. This demand is expected to double to 86 billion kw/h in 2005, and to 326.8 billion kw/h in 2010.
