For the first time, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved two drugs intended to help behavioural problems in pets. Clomipramine can now be used to treat canines suffering from separation anxiety -- unnatural behaviour when the owner leaves it alone. The second drug, selegiline, can be used to treat cognitive dysfunction syndrome, a common age-related dementia. Both the drugs are also used to treat humans. Clomipramine is an antidepressant while selegiline is usually given to patients of Parkinson's disease.
