A research team based at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology have developed a new battery that has greater capacity, a faster discharge rate and are rechargeable. The difference is in the cathode, which is made from unusual iron-based molecules known as iron (VI), or "super-iron" compounds that absorb more electrons than the manganese dioxide currently used in most batteries. The scientists says that the batteries will have a 50 per cent energy advantage over conventional alkaline batteries.
