the Bombay high court has ruled that the helipad constructed by Tata Electric Companies ( tec ) at Cuffe Parade contravenes the Coastal Regulatory Zone ( crz ) notifications and provisions of the Aircraft Act, 1934. However, the court said the company was free to seek clearance from the ministry of environment and forests and the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (mczma ). The ruling came after a housing cooperative filed a petition alleging that the construction contravened crz rules. The petitioners had also filed complaints against a tec bulk receiving station on plot number 148 in the area.
However, the court ruled that the latter construction did not contravene the crz notifications. The counsel for petitioners was that the helipad was constructed on plot 148 in an area where it was surrounded by the hutments of local fishermen.
