A South Korean firm will invest us $10 million on a fleet of 300 electric cars that will ferry tourists around Cambodia's sprawling Angkor Vat temple complex, a tourism ministry official said recently. "These cars will transport tourists and also reduce vibrations that might cause damage to the temples. The cars will lessen noise and air pollution by trucks and vans," director-general of the tourism ministry So Mara told a news agency.
Buses, private cars and motorcycles will be banned from the complex that dates back to the 9th-13th century. The service will be inaugurated in December before a millennium dance festival at Angkor Vat, he said. The firm, ABC Cambodia Co Ltd, will import these eight-seater cars from the us. The service will create some 400 new jobs, So Mara added.
