Solution for pollution?

Scientists at Benaras Hindu University (BHU), India, have developed a low-cost catalyst for reducing automobile pollution. They claim that it can replace those currently being used in imported catalytic converters. Unlike the existing converters using expensive metals like gold and platinum, their catalyst employs copper chromite. BHU claims that the new converter is inexpensive and "extraordinarily efficient" in converting carbon monoxide into harmless carbon dioxide. Since it is not poisoned by lead, it can also be used in the conversion of unleaded petrol ( PTI Science Service , Vol 17, No 2).
