Students in the UK demand lowering tuition feesOn November 10 more than 70 websites in the UK defied police rulings to issue guidance to student protesters on avoiding arrest.
The protests that began in early November against a hike in university tuition fees have been described by the media as the country’s most intensive student upsurge in three decades.
The blog, http://fitwatch.org. uk, was suspended on November 9 after detectives from CO11, the public order branch of the UK police, told JustHost.com, the company hosting the website, that “Fitwatch was being used for criminal activities”.
A CO11 spokesperson said the site was giving information on how to destroy proof. “We drew the Internet providers’ attention and they suspended the site.” The blogpost advised protesters to get rid of clothes, spray cans, delete dodgy texts/photos on the phone, get a haircut, change hair colour, grow a beard, and wear glasses. The blogpost was re-published on 78 websites, including Facebook, the very next day.
