Plans are being finalised for the world's largest radio telescope by astronomers from India, Australia, Canada and three other countries. The telescope -- Square Kilometer Array Interferometer -- has 34 detectors spread out over a square 250 kilometre on a side. It will help astronomers to investigate the formation of different structures in the universe. The construction of the US $150 million telescope is expected to start by the year 2005. Though the number of detectors and their size have been finalised, the detailed design and the location are yet to be ascertained ( Science , Vol 276, No 5315).
