A division bench of the Supreme Court issued notices to about 8,712 industries in 28 industrial areas of Delhi which have not set up common effluent treatment plants. They now face the threat of being closed down in four weeks time. The industries which have been discharging effluents since 1985 had been asked by the Supreme Court to set up these treatment plants by the end of 1996. The highest concentration of these units are in the Anand Parbat Industrial area, Mayapuri and Wazirpur. The judges also wanted to know about the progress made by Haryana in this regard.
