A prize-winning invention by Orian
Brunavs, a student of the Townsendl
High School in Bulawayo
Zimbabwe, could help breed chickens aided by the sun's heat. This
innovative application of solar
power in livestock management
includes a solar-heated chicken
breeding house. A black concrete
collecting slab transfers the solar
heat to water pipes embedded in the
walls and floor of the breeding
house, which in turn heats the
insides of the house.
The invention can also be used
for other purposes. For instance, it
can efficiently heat greenhouses in
winter to prevent frost formation
(Sun Worla,VoI19,N04).
