After Japanese,
American haemophiliacs have followed suit. They have turned down
aUS $640 million settlement offer
made by four major drug companies. An estimated 10,000 haemophiliacs in the US contracted the
AIDS virus by injecting tainted
blood-clotting products made by
the companies in the early '80s.
Attorneys representing the haemophiliacs said that the offer made
last month was too low to set tie the
claims. They are citing the case of
Japanese haemophiliacs who are
receiving higher claims. The four
drug companies involved in the
suit are, Bayer AG, Baxter International Inc, Rhone-Poulenc, Rorer
Inc and Alpha Therapeutics Inc.
