Foreseeing the threat
posed by mining to the Surajkund
and Badkallakes in Haryana, the
Supreme Court has ordered the
closure of all mines on May 13. No
mining operation will be allowed
within a two km radius of the
tourist resorts. The court also
directed that no construction of
any type would be allowed within a
five km radius of the two resorts.
Mining leases will be renewed on
the basis of 'no objection' certificate issued by the Central and state
Pollution Control Boards.
