There seems to be a complete go-by for environmental lawsin a proposed thermal power plant at Thar in Pakistan's Sindh province. Hongpak United, the plant's mentor, apparently did not obtain an environment impact assessement or a no-objection certificate from the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

"We only know as much about these proposed power plants as anyone else does through newspapers," says Mehtab Rashdi, director general, Sindh EPA. Rashdi maintained, despite recurring communication with the Private Power Cell, Islamabad, and the Sindh Coal Authority, there was no response about more information on such proposed plants.
