ALZHEIMER's disease
can now be
diagnosed much
before the accursed. symptoms
mature. Gary
W Small of the
University of
California (Los
Angeles School of
Medicine), Allen D
Roses of the Duke
University School
of Medicine
arrived at a new
method by ccmparing the results of
positron emission
tomography - PET -
scans of
12 people at a high
risk of developing
Alzheimers disease,
with 19 who
faced a much lower
risk.
The), found that
patients with the
Apo-E-4 gene had
more pronounced
changes in their
brains, indicating
the
onset of the
degenerative
disease.
The scientists are
waiting for further
tests to confirm
the new diagnostic
method.
