A 29ft rubber whale, Molly the Minke, is being paraded on the back of a truck in the UK. The float will go through 38 towns and cities before it gets shipped to Dublin for the International Whaling Commission (IWC), which is meeting at the end of May. Greenpeace, the promoter of this tour, is being accused of stinginess when it comes to campaigns for protecting cetaceans. It is spending only L10,000 out of an annual budget on whaling of L79,000 on this important promotion tour. But an IWC veteran, Andy Ottoway, says, "I expect this tour will bring in more new members and donations than is spent. Far more money is raised through whales than is actually spent saving them. Greenpeace has grown dependent on this income."
