Solar lawn mower

An American company, Solar Power
International, Inc. has developed a
solar lawn mower that is pollution-
free. A conventional gasoline-powered lawn mower, on the other
hand, causies more pollution in half
an hour than a car driven 300 km
(Solar Today, Vol 9, No 2).
The solar mower uses photovoltaic cells to charge a 4-horsepower DC motor. The company claims
that after a day's charging in the son
or about 4 hours plugged into a
standard household AC outlet, the
equipment can run for 2 hours in
grass that is upto 15 cm high.
