VANI says no

The Voluntary Action Network of
India (VANI) continues its campaign
for changes in the country's existing
Acts, Rules and Procedures affecting
voluntary ,organisations, It coordinated a letter campaign in September, in
which NGOs from around the country
wrote to the Prime Minister and to
various ministers, requesting changes
in the Societies' Registration Act,
which they say Is Inappropriate for
the nature of development arganisstions. They also allege harassment by
various agencies in.processing, applications for foreign funds under the
Foreign Contribution and Regulation
Act. Qrganisations have complained
agaMst the Income Tax Act at well,
which defines funds recelved,,os
income.
