A BHUTANESE princess, Deiky Wang-chuck, was arrested in Taiwan for trying to smuggle 22 Asian rhinoceros horns into the country, in the largest ever seizure of such horns (New Scientist, October 16, 1993).
Taiwanese authorities say Wang-chuck admitted she expected to sell the horn -- weighing 14 kgs -- for approximately $740,000, because the horn of the Asian rhino is considered a more potent medicine and therefore, worth 10 times more than its African counterpart.
