Urea in milk
The Lahore High Court has expressed displeasure over a report submitted by the Pakistan Council of Scientific and
Industrial Research (pcsir) laboratory expressing its inability to check the quantity of melamine and urea in the milk
supplied in Lahore. Hearing a petition alleging adulterated milk supply in the city, the court ordered milk samples be tested at
class='UCASE'>pcsir. Eighty per cent of the milk supply in Lahore is reportedly contaminated with urea, melamine, formalin (a chemical
used to conserve dead bodies) and unhygienic water, the petition said. On April 14, the lab said it was unable to check the adulteration as its
equipment was outdated. The court has ordered the samples be examined at some other laboratory, maybe in the Punjab University or the
University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.
