Vegetarians less bony: Going vegetarian could reduce one's bone weight. A joint Australian-Vietnamese study linked the bones and diet of more than 2,700 people and found vegetarians had bones five per cent less dense than meat-eaters.
Those who followed a vegan diet that excludes milk and dairy products too had six per cent weaker bones, the study published in the latest issue of American Journal of Clinical Nutrition said.
There was no difference in the bone density of meat eaters and those who ate eggs and dairy products while avoiding meat and fish. The study does not say whether lower density of bones increases fracture risk.
