Northern part of a six storey building on Cadell road in Mahim collapsed after 8 pm on Monday night. It sandwiched at least 11 people in the resultant debris and another 10-15 people were stuck in the remaining portion of the building, which did not collapse. They were eventually rescued by the Mumbai Fire Brigade.

Chandbi Sheikh (17), now admitted in the Hinduja Hospital, is toll now the lone survivor succesfully rescued from under the debris of the collapsed portion of the building at around 11: 50 pm on Monday

Alima Sheikh (50) was found dead by rescue workers at around 12: 45 am as the rescue workers sought to clear the debris and find people sandwiched inside.

The Fire brigade and the force took up rescue work jointly. 136: Despite the presence of multiple agencies, inconsolable local residents actively involved themselves with the rescue operations.
