-- -- The 2008 Icelandic fisheries exhibition began on October 2 near, Iceland's capital Reykjavik.Since its inception in 1984, this event, popularly known as Icefish, has become one of the world's leading fishing events.

Held every three years, Icefish showcased the latest developments in the commercial fishing industry, ranging from the design and construction of vessels, through the most modern technology used in locating and catching, processing and packaging, to marketing and distribution.

The show attracted more than 20,000 visitors. Some 600 fishing companies from across the world participated in the exhibition that ended on October 4. The exhibition also featured an Icelandic fishing awards ceremony, which aims to recognize the efforts of companies from both Iceland and overseas, who have made outstanding contributions to the commercial fishing industry.
