Argentina scrapped a deal with the uk to share any oil found off the Falkland Islands, ahead of the 25th anniversary of
the war for the islands.
April 2, 2007, marked 25 years since uk forces reclaimed the islands after an Argentine invasion.
In a statement, Argentine foreign minister Jorge Taiana said that the country is not opposed to co-operating with the
resources that belong to Argentines. Its cooperation has to be linked to reopening talks over Argentina's sovereignty of the islands, Taiana said.
In 1995, the two countries agreed to a joint oil exploration in the area off Falkland Islands. The area is believed to have billions of dollars worth of oil
under its waters.
