Sigmar Gabriel, Germany's environment minister, has introduced a new proposal which will make it mandatory for car dealers to display an emissions certificate next to the price sticker on all new vehicles' windscreens. The German newspaper Welt am Sonntag reported that the certificate will be similar to the efficiency 'passports' found on European household appliances. It will indicate details of carbon dioxide emissions and the car's fuel economy relative to its class in a colour scale ranging from green to red. The newspaper cites an environment ministry official, as saying that the certificate will alert potential buyers to heavily polluting vehicles.
