Logistics giant DHL goes eco-friendly

dhl is set to go green. The logistics company plans to transmute their entire overland fleet to lpg, a more eco-friendly fuel. The company has around 333 vehicles in India and during its first phase of its go-green campaign, the targets to transform 200 vehicles to the lpg mode. The programme has already been launched in Delhi, Kolkata, Pune and Chennai.

Though lpg is less favourable with regard to fuel efficiency, the company has adopted it because of its record of controlling nox emissions and low carbon content. The company has quoted that in recent tests conducted, lpg engine emission emitted 11-13 per cent less carbon dioxide, 15-80 per cent fewer oxides of nitrogen, about 20-40 per cent reduced hydrocarbons and 30-35 per cent less carbon monoxide, compared to ultra low sulphur petrol engine emissions. The move is also expected to save on fuel costs.
