Food safety has become a matter of intense public concern, especially in developing countries. And for good reason. When it comes to food safety, billions of dollars are at stake. Industry, government, and consumers collide over issues of values, economics, and political power--and not always in the public interest. Although the debates may appear to be about science, they really are about control who decides when a food is safe? Today centuries-old laws for ensuring food safety no longer protect our food supply.

In this situation it's not surprising that there is increased vigil over the food industry. Many groups have kept up pressure on industry. Take the site under review. Run by a coalition of anti-GM groups based in the US, the site is a campaign instrument. It has links to literature and media coverage on GM food, and important US laws on them. There is also an online video on GM content in Kraft food products.

Matters pertaining to labelling are also up for discussion. There is a media guide listing US media contacts.

Ostensibly the site has ancillary value for netizens in India. But anti-GM groups in the country--or other developing nations--can take a leaf from the http//www.thecampaign.org.
