In the on-going war the us administration -- and media -- is completely unfazed about dangling us $6 billion (they say in grants) in front of the Turkish parliament in exchange for use of its territory to open another front, a strategy it also followed with Pakistan during its hunt for Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan. Environmentalists know better. The us is actually following a norm.

I wish to share a piece of Bushspeak the discussion ended with, leaving me stunned. "Remember, there will be war. The us wants it. But if you are with them now, it will count afterwards." With us, or against us. No other choice.

russia has refused to toe the us line on Kyoto Protocol -- the international agreement to control greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions. A us delegation was in Russia recently to explore possible common approaches to address climate change. But experts feel that the real purpose of the visit was to influence Russia's position on Kyoto ratification.
