Power surplus: Bhutan and India signed four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on hydropower during Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk’s December visit to India. The MoU is to help Bhutan build a number of power projects to generate 11,000 MW power by 2020. Bhutan’s domestic electricity consumption is only 400 MW and it has an installed capacity of 1,500 MW. The surplus is exported to India. The two countries signed eight other MoUs in various fields, including health.
