the Madhya Pradesh ( mp ) government's proposal to hand over captive plantations to industry has been coldshouldered by the Centre. The move was earlier opposed by local groups and environmentalists.

Meanwhile, the mp government has filed an explanation with the Centre for not procuring a prior sanction from the former for floating such a proposal. It plans to introduce a bill to take over private plantation management in the state. This bill would enable the government to select the species to be planted on private lands and regulate their disposal by their private owners.
