Surjit S Mann, director of the Delhi-based Kala-Tex India Ltd has invented an environment-friendly textile dye by a process based on electrolyte technology. This electrolytic composition dye labelled 'Huss Mann' is suitable for synthetic blends. The method of making this dye is time-saving and economical in the consumption of water, steam, power and chemicals. It can also replace common salt and strong alkalis, traditionally used in the dyeing process. Mann says that the effluent from this newly developed chemical derivative is non-hazardous, bio-degradable and can also be used as a cost-effective fertiliser. Apart from these advantages, the chemical can be recycled and re- used ( Environ-news , September '96).
