Diversification is the name of the game as Germany's national post office moves into the power retailing business. Staff at the Deutsche Post AG has been trained in the art of selling electricity over the counter, including green power provided by a Dutch utility. The green package includes wind. There is one snag, however. All German electricity consumers already pay a premium for wind power under the country's wind energy law and the business may not be economically successful.
