THE Sardar Sarovar dam on Narmada river has been exposed to more damages, according to a press release by Narmada Bachao Andolan. More than 15,000 cubic megatonnes (cu mt) of cement has been washed away in addition to an indefinite number of foundation rocks. A substantial section of the sloping apron has been swept out too. The damages now extend right upto the toe of the dam in certain areas. The fresh aggregate of detriments are estimated to be of greater m tude than those found earlier this when heaps of cement was f4 exposed in two stilling basins.

Besides pointing out the man ment's slips, the press release acc them of misusing crores of p money. It also charges them for do ing people about the dam's pow withstand floods. It may be noted the dam was severely ravage according to authorities, by a 'on 500 years- flood - in Septembeir 1 The Central Water Commission found out whose intensity was than "once in 100 years" floods.
