Newspapers come replete with news of starvation deaths while stocks go waste in government storage houses. Food scarcity in India is a more a human-made problem that one brought upon by nature's vagaries. Public distribution system, food and grain prices, gender-related problems and sheer poverty combine to have a debilitating effect on India's public health. In a country where some states still remain food deficit -- consuming more than they produce -- a proper system of distribution of food grain is a must, that too on an equitable basis,where the poorest of the poor gets taken care of too.
1.A stae may not necessarily need to be produce more but a deficit increases its dependence on the distribution network
2.Instable food production leads to short term food scarcity in states like Gujarat,Rajastan and Orissa
3.The agricultural practises have made agriculture in states like Haryana and Punjab the most susceptible to ecological harm
4.Despite good sources of water Bihar remains the most food insecure state because of lack of access to food and livelihood
