Two German environmental groups fighting against Airbus Industrie's encroachment of the Mhlenberger lake have filed an emergency legal injunction in a German federal constitutional court. The lake in Hamburg, Germany, is Europe's largest freshwater tidal lake that provides critical habitat for 70 species of migratory birds. Airbus Industrie, the European aircraft-manufacturing consortium, has already started filling the lake to extend its Hamburg factory. The groups presented in the court scientific evidences which show that the company's activities are causing irreversible damage to the lake. "Airbus can cancel its environmentally destructive plans without significant financial costs," the groups assert.
