There have been no observed instances of migration within India that can be directly attributable to global warming of anthropogenic origin, Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Babul Supriyo told the Rajya Sabha on February 3, 2020.
Migration patterns continue to be monitored by the central and state governments in the work of several departments and through the work of many government and non-government agencies, academics and civil society organisations, the minister said in response to a question on migration due to climate change in India.
Use of reverse osmosis water purifiers
Local bodies as well as private and public sector agencies engaged in potable water supply shall inform consumers about the concentration of total dissolved solids (TDS) in water being supplied by them on a regular basis.
The statement by Babul Supriyo in the Rajya Sabha came in response to a question on whether the National Green Tribunal had directed the MoEF&CC to issue notification restricting the use of reverse osmosis water purifiers in places where TDS in water was below 500 mg per litre.
Online continuous emissions monitoring system
Around 3,513 industrial units have installed the Online Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (OCEMS) as on July 31, 2019, Babu Supriyo told the Rajya Sabha.
About 4,245 units were identified for the installation of the OCEMS in accordance with the directions of the Central Pollution Control Board of which, 3,513 installed them.
Dam Safety Bill
The safety of the dams is the prime responsibility of the state governments and the dam owners and the Dam Safety Bill 2019 proposes an institutional framework and provisions for prevention of dam failure related disaster through proper surveillance, inspection, operation and maintenance of dams in India.
The proposed Dam Safety Bill 2019 does not seek to alter or dilute the states’ established ownership of dams or their day-to-day roles in the operation and management of dams, Union Jal Shakti Minister RL Kataria said in the Rajya Sabha.
Rehabilitation of people at Jharia coal area
The Union government has approved a Master Plan to be implemented within ten years for the rehabilitation of the people affected by the underground fire and land subsidence in the Jharia Coal area of Jharkhand, according to a statement by Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines, Prahlad Joshi in the Rajya Sabha
