8,572 vacancies for doctors in rural areas to be filled
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare acknowledged shortage of doctors in public health facilities, particularly in India's rural areas. According to data presented in the Rajya Sabha by health minister Harsh Vardhan, 8,572 positions for the post of doctors in rural areas are lying vacant.
Swine flu cases doubled in 2019
Over 8,058 cases of swine flu have been registered between January and June 2019. Karnataka and Telangana recorded the highest number of cases, reveals the data presented by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Ashwini Kumar Choubey in the Rajya Sabha.
Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019 to regulate taxi aggregators
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari tabled the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019, in the Lok Sabha on July 15. The bill seeks to amend the Motor Vehicles Bill, 1988, to address the issues of third party insurance, regulation of taxi aggregators and road safety.
It also proposes the development of a National Transportation Policy by the Centre to set up guidelines for the transportation of goods and passengers.
15% of the farmer applicants got PMFBY claims
During 2018-19, about 561 lakh farmer applicants were covered at subsidised premium rates under Pradhan Mantri Fasal BimaYojana (PMFBY) in the country. Out of these, about 85 lakh farmers got insurance claims due to loss of their insured crops, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar told the Lok Sabha.
40% soil testing laboratories in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
Under the Soil Health Management scheme, the government is providing financial assistance to states for setting up / strengthening of various types of soil testing laboratories according to their requirement.
At present, 7,949 soil testing laboratories are functioning in the country and 44 per cent of these are in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh shows the data presented by Narendra Singh Tomar in the Lok Sabha.
Mango production to drop
Mango production in India is estimated to slightly decrease from 21.82 Million Tonnes (MT) in 2017-18 to 20.95 MT in 2018-19. The decrease is estimated primarily due to the decline in mango production in the states of Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar, Telangana and Maharashtra.
But no proposal to provide assistance to affected mango farmers has been received by the agriculture ministry so far, said Narendra Singh Tomar.
